SharePoint 2013 features and highlights

User interface updates

  • The user interface in SharePoint 2013 is reorganized into three hubs: Newsfeed, OneDrive, and Sites.
  • Instead of “shared” and “private” documents, SharePoint 2013 lets you store personal documents in a single, personal library that you can access from anywhere.
  • Drag-and-drop features allow you to move files between your desktop or any location using File Explorer and SharePoint.
  • The callout feature in document libraries displays a set of commands and contextual information for each document. Use it to open, share, or follow documents.

More ways to share and discover

  • The Share command lets you quickly share documents or sites and control what others can do with them (like read or write).
  • Receive alerts in your newsfeed whenever a document is updated.
  • Microblogging features enable you to have conversations in your Newsfeed.
  • A OneNote notebook is automatically created for your team site. Use this notebook to capture, compile, and share information.
  • SharePoint Server 2013 supports developing, installing, and using apps, which are small applications that solve a specific need or perform a specific task.
