Take the success story of a Goodyear team in Europe that designed a tire to conform with local government tire labeling regulations. Associates documented experiences and lessons learned within a collaboration site on the company’s intranet. Fast-forward two years and a team in Latin America faced a similar tire labelling design requirement. That team did a quick “knowledge sweep” to search the intranet’s past projects and retrieved the information needed to jump-start the project.
“The team in Latin America saved at least a full design iteration, which is a tremendous amount of time and money—and accelerated the product’s time to market,” says Testa. “We have approximately 500 concurrent projects, each with its own library of lessons learned. Now that we have pulled all those libraries into one searchable list, it’s easy for teams to find the information they need to hit the ground running.”
