Office Language Packs 2010 FAQ

General information

What are Microsoft Office Language Packs?
Language Packs are add-in products that can significantly change the user experience of Microsoft Office 2010 programs by enabling desktops to support multiple languages. This includes Menus/Display, Help, Dictionary, Thesaurus, and Spell Checker. In addition to enhancing the user experience, a user can elect to use individual aspects of the pack, such as spell checker to proof a document in a language other than the default language set on their computer.
What languages are available?

Individual Office Language Packs are available for the following languages:

Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Bulgarian, Croatian, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Kazakh, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian Latin, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Ukrainian.

A Language Pack enables a user or organization to add localized Display, Help, and document-proofing tools for an additional language to their base Office 2010 language deployment and to easily switch between languages.
What Office applications do Language Packs enable?
Language Packs enable localized Menus/Display, Help, and document proofing tools for most Microsoft Office 2010 applications, including Word 2010, Excel 2010, PowerPoint 2010, Access 2010, Outlook 2010, OneNote 2010, InfoPath 2010, Publisher 2010, Project 2010, SharePoint Workspace 2010, Visio 2010, and the Microsoft Office suites containing these products. Language Packs are not supported on Word Starter 2010 and Excel Starter 2010. Access 2010 and Project 2010 are not supported in Hindi.
In addition, Display languages for Microsoft Office Tools, such as Clip Organizer, Document Imaging, Document Scanning, and Picture Manager, are localized when Language Packs are enabled. Application localization varies by language. Consult the Office Language Packs proofing-tools comparison page for more details.

Pricing and how to buy

How much do Language Packs cost?
Office Language Packs have a suggested retail price of $24.95 (U.S.) or the international currency equivalent. Please note that the suggested retail prices may be higher in non-U.S. currencies due to additional taxes and/or transaction costs, and that the actual price is established by the retailer.
How can I buy individual Office Language Packs?
Office Language Packs are available for purchase exclusively on the Office website. To buy an Office Language Pack, visit the Office Language Packs home page, choose the language you wish to purchase and click Buy now, and follow the instructions. Please note that individual Language Packs are not available through volume licensing programs. In addition, Language Packs are only available for the current version of Office.

Will Language Packs for Office 2007 work with Microsoft Office 2010 applications?
No. Due to changes in application architecture, customers must purchase Office 2010 single Language Packs in order to get multilingual capabilities for Microsoft Office 2010 applications.
How are Office Language Packs and the Office website connected?
The Office website covers many languages and geographies and allows users to further enhance their language experience by providing language- and market-specific assets such as Help, Templates, and add-ons, which are continually being added to meet customer needs.
Will there be language capabilities for any other languages?
Yes. Microsoft is working with local language authorities around the world to provide free “Office Language Interface Packs” for languages not covered by the Office Language Packs 2010. For more information about acquiring Language Interface Packs, visit the Microsoft Local Language Program website.
