Outlook 2010 features and highlights

User interface updates

  • In Outlook 2010, the ribbon replaced menus in the main window. You can customize the ribbon to include personalized tabs to better match your work style.
  • Click File to see the Office Backstage view. Here you can manage your accounts, set up rules and Automatic Replies, and more.
  • The improved conversation view helps you track and manage related messages no matter what folder they’re in. View the complete course of a conversation, including your responses.

Productivity features

  • Outlook 2010 provides better access to all-day appointments and events than previous versions. You get visual indicators for conflicts and unanswered meeting requests, day separators, and drag-and-drop resizing.
  • The Quick Steps gallery helps you turn frequently used commands and procedures into one-click tasks. You can customize the default Quick Steps and create your own buttons that combine your frequent actions.
  • MailTips help you avoid things like clicking Reply All to a large recipient list, sending sensitive information outside your organization, or sending a message to someone who’s out of the office.
  • Reduce the noise in your inbox with the Ignore command, which moves a conversation and any future messages to the Deleted Items folder.

Calendar improvements

  • Use Calendar Groups to quickly see the calendars of people you work with. Add members once and use the Calendar Group every time you want to view those same calendars.
  • The Schedule View helps take the guesswork out of scheduling meetings. Individual, resource, or Calendar Group calendars appear in a horizontal view to help you quickly determine the best time to meet.
