SharePoint 2010 features and highlights
Updated user interface
- The ribbon (introduced in Office 2007) is a new feature in SharePoint Server 2010. It helps you quickly find the commands you need to complete tasks.
- Ribbon commands are organized in logical groups, displayed together under tabs related to an activity, such as working with document libraries.
- An improved search results layout categorizes information and includes better descriptions and metadata. Search results also display the people in your social circle at the top.
Collaboration & site management
- Use the co-authoring feature in SharePoint 2010 to work simultaneously with others on Word documents and PowerPoint presentations.
- Display multiple SharePoint and Exchange calendars on one page, and quickly add events without leaving the calendar.
- The Rich Text Editor makes working with wiki pages and blog posts more streamlined.
- Easily add or remove users and groups, change permission levels, and manage access to your sites. You can also view and adjust all permission levels granted to a user or group.
BI features
- Excel Services provides enhanced business intelligence (BI) capabilities—with data analysis features that let you analyze millions of records quickly.
- The Chart Web Part lets you add rich charts to SharePoint sites and connect to data from a variety of sources.
